DYSS set to host 68th National School Games in Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 30: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) is gearing up to make history by hosting the 68th National School Games in four sports disciplines, marking a significant milestone for Jammu. This will be the first time since the department’s inception that it oversees such a large-scale national event.
The games will feature Judo, Fencing, Wushu, and Football, highlighting the region’s growing prowess in sports. The schedule is as follows: Judo U-17 boys will take place at the Indoor Sports Complex in Bhagwati Nagar from November 7 to 11, 2024. Following that, fencing events for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls will be held at the Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, from November 12 to 21. Wushu U-17 competitions will occur from November 22 to 26 at the Indoor Sports Complex, while Football U-17 matches will be hosted at Sainik School Nagrota and Khel Gaon Nagrota from November 30 to December 10, with a break on December 5.
In a meeting, Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of DYSS, stressed the importance of creating a robust sports ecosystem to nurture young talent. He remarked, “Our focus should be to nurture youth and develop sporting excellence. We aim to provide sportspersons with the best infrastructure so they can realize their full potential.”
Tara was accompanied by Deputy Director of Youth Services and Sports, Jitender Mishra, and Director of Physical Education and Sports at the University of Jammu, Daud Iqbal, during his visit to review arrangements for the Fencing tournament. His emphasis on quality infrastructure and streamlined sporting activities aims to enhance Jammu’s reputation in the national sports arena. With a strong history of medal wins in these disciplines, the upcoming National School Games are expected to showcase the best of Jammu’s youth talent.
Former International Fencer and Coach Rashid Ahmed; former International Fencer and Coach of Youth Services and Sports Department, Ujjawal Gupta and National medallist, Abdul Qadir were also present.
