JAMMU, Nov 3: The 51st J&K UT Badminton Championships 2024, organized by the Badminton Association of J&K in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, concluded at the Indoor Sports Complex, M.A. Stadium, here today. The event highlighted the impressive enthusiasm and dedication of around 300 young badminton players from across Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the growing interest and skill development in the sport throughout the region.
The finals and prize distribution ceremony saw a lively gathering, with players, families, and prominent guests cheering for the athletes. Dr. O.D. Sharma, vice president of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and chairman of the Badminton Association of J&K, presented awards to the winners and runners-up across various categories, celebrating their talent and perseverance. Among the distinguished attendees were DV Sharma (vice chairman, BAJK), Balbir Jamwal (general secretary, BAJK), Dushyant Sharma (treasurer, BAJK), Suraj Bhan (Indoor manager), and Pawanjit Singh, demonstrating strong institutional support for badminton in the Union Territory.
Under the supervision of referee Rahul Sharma and assisted by coaches Touseef Ahmed, Vikram Saini, and Divum Gupta, along with a dedicated team of technical officials, the tournament proceeded smoothly. Competitions were held across diverse age groups and event formats, including Singles and Doubles in both Boys’ and Girls’ divisions, as well as Mixed Doubles for senior categories. The young champions displayed impressive skill and sportsmanship, setting new benchmarks for excellence in badminton.
Some notable results from the tournament included Under-11 Singles wins by Utkarsh Bhau and Tara Shan, and Doubles victories by Utkarsh Bhau, Aarav Mal, Aarya Mahajan, and Tara Shan. In the Under-13 category, Harsh Sharma and Paavni Gupta clinched Singles titles, with Harsh Sharma, Vivaan Chib, Paavni Gupta, and Eleena Chib excelling in the Doubles events. Under-17 and Under-19 saw remarkable performances from Gopesh Singh, Antima Naruka, Kanhaiya Sudan, and Labeeb, while Shaouryaveer and Vaibhav Mehta emerged victorious in Doubles. The under-19 singles titles were won by Shaurya Pratham and Krishika Mahajan. The Men’s single title won by Raghav Dogra while Woman’s single won by Krishika Mahajan.
