SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Continuing its tradition of nurturing top-tier football talent, the J&K Bank Football Academy has produced three Graduates who have been selected for the Jammu and Kashmir squad for the prestigious Santosh Trophy 2024. The trio, consisting of Athar Irshad, Huzafah Ahmad Dar, and Talib Nazir, has earned a spot in the 22-man squad that will compete in the 78th Senior Men’s Football National Championship.
The Santosh Trophy, which kicks off on November 20, will see 38 teams battling for the title across various cities. J&K is placed in Group A alongside Punjab, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. These players, who have trained under the guidance of top coaches at the J&K Bank Football Academy, will join the ranks of the region’s celebrated football stars.
Tabassum Nazir, Chairperson of J&K Bank Sports Board, expressed her excitement over the players’ selection. “We are thrilled to know that three of our football academy players have been selected for the Santosh Trophy, and we hope they make a mark with their performance,” she said. The Bank also sponsors various age-group teams, bringing numerous accolades to both the institution and J&K.
Syed Shujaat Hussain Andrabi, Vice Chairman of the Sports Board, congratulated the players said that the Bank plays a significant role in fostering talent and supporting players to represent J&K and the nation at prestigious tournaments like the Santosh Trophy.
