Ritvik, Nitya win titles at 47th J&K UT Table Tennis C’ship

JAMMU, Nov 12: The 47th J&K UT Table Tennis Championships 2024 concluded with intense matches and remarkable performances, as Ritvik Gupta and Nitya Arora emerged victorious in the Men’s and Women’s Singles categories, respectively. The event, held at the Indoor Sports Complex, saw thrilling contests with players displaying remarkable skill and determination.
Ritvik Gupta triumphed in the Men’s Singles, defeating Maanay Mansotra in a hard-fought by 3-2, while Nitya Arora claimed the Women’s Singles title, overcoming Mishti Agarwal by the same scoreline. Both finals were closely contested, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of the players.
Ritvik Gupta further impressed with strong performances in other categories, securing victories in the Under-15 and Under-17 divisions, while Nitya Arora repeated her success in the Junior Girls (Under-17) and Junior Girls (Under-19) events.
The tournament also saw standout performances from young talents across various age groups. Syrah Dewan won the Under-11 Girls category, while Saiyam Nischal claimed the Under-11 Boys title. In the Under-13 Boys category, Saiyam Nischal secured the top spot, while Myrah Dewan triumphed in the Under-13 Girls category. In the Under-15 divisions, Ritvik Gupta claimed victory in the Boys category and Nitya Arora won the Girls category.
The competition was fierce across all age groups, with the winners of the Under-17 categories including Ritvik Gupta in the Boys and Nitya Arora in the Girls. In the Under-19 divisions, Ritvik Gupta claimed the Men’s title, with Nitya Arora emerging as the winner in the Women’s category. In the Veteran Men’s category, Amit emerged victorious, with Vipin finishing as the runner-up.
The event was graced by the presence of chief guest, Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma. He congratulated the participants and emphasized the need for further development of sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. He also presented Rs 5000 cash awards to the winners and runners-up, underscoring the importance of consistent effort and sportsmanship.
Guest of honour, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, along with other dignitaries present, including Rajinder Singh Tara, DG Youth Services and Sports, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council, Mohd Haneef, Chief Sports Officer J&K Sports Council, Baljinder Pal Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, and Rajeev Sharma, Member Sports Council, was also present at the event.
The tournament, organized by the Jammu District Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the J&K Table Tennis Association and J&K Sports Council, was a significant step towards fostering a competitive sports culture in the region.
