Come hot summer, many take to a dip in the Ranbir canal to keep off the heat. Never does any summer pass when tragedies do not strike while people especially the youth while bathing slip and get drowned . A few days back a senior citizen drowned in the canal and his floating body was spotted by the people. Recently a 12 year old boy drowned .
There are no preventive or safety or rescuing measures enroute the busy spots of this canal to help those who could be saved. It is only days after that with the help of divers the bodies are spotted and fished out.
Cannot the Government make such arrangements at designated spots which could be manned by professional swimmers , sports personnel and divers so that in emergencies lives could be saved. Besides this canal is a dumping ground for dirt, kachra and filth . Overnight disposals, kachra and other kitchen waste wrapped in polythene bags are thrown in the canal making its water dirty .
