JAMMU, Nov 29: Shiv Sena (UBT) and Swami Rajeshwaranand Ji Maharaj from Sant Samaj here today staged a protest demonstration demanding cancellation of the ropeway project on Tarakot road of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra.
The protesters accused authorities of destroying the original form of the Yatra.
The protest was led by Shri Rajmata Jhandewalan Temple Group’s Paramadhyaksha Swami Rajeshwaranand Ji Maharaj and Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K chief, Manish Sahni.
Holding placards with messages in favour of their demands the protesters claimed that the ropeway project was intended to play with the religious sentiments.
“The purpose of pilgrimages is to give the message of religion, wealth, work and salvation to the worldly people but hitting the livelihood of the people attached with the pilgrimages including daily porters, small shopkeepers and others is not proper,” Manish Sahni said.
He further urged the Shrine Board to use Rs. 250 crore earmarked for the ropeway for the upliftment of famous, historical temples of Jammu and Katra and to create a Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra Circuit with famous and historical temples on the lines of Lord Shri Ram Temple of Ayodhya.
Omkar Singh, Ranjit Singh, Vikram Singh, Prabhav Singh, Kewal Singh, Narendra Singh, Pandit Narendra Kumar, Karan Singh from Katra Vyapar Mandal, Darud and Meenakshi Chhibber, Jai Bharti, Vikas Bakshi, Balwant Singh, Geeta Lakhotra, Dimple, Sanjeev Kumar and many others were also present in the protest.
