Srinagar, May 11: CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today said that the Government has resorted to undemocratic and atrocious ways by detaining youth and political leaders across the Valley.
“I advise the authorities to adopt more humane approach while tackling the angry and misguided youth. The youth should also follow peaceful means to express their concern for justice and democratic rights, and not to adopt any violent means to convey their point,” he said in a statement.
The CPI (M) leader regretted that instead of facilitating a genuine democratic space to the young people, voices of dissent, the administration by way of using harsh measures is choking and stifling the voice of people.
He said digging old graves and reopening old cases against youth means the administration is not serious to learn the lessons from past agitations that led to the loss of hundreds of precious lives and incapacitated dozens in valley.
“Using force and arrest as tool to silence the dissent will not only damage and destroy careers of our youth but it will surely prove detrimental results in future,” he said, urging the authorities to review its policies and release the youth and political leaders without any delay.
