JAMMU, May 11: Army foiled yet another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nangi Tekri area of Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district late last night. The intrusion bid by the militants was backed by Pakistani troops, which resorted to ceasefire violation at the same time from their posts when the infiltrators tried to enter into this side.
Meanwhile, Army and police today recovered a consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives from Darhal in Rajouri district.
Official sources said troops observed movement of the militants trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory from Nangi Tekri along the LoC at around 11 pm last night and opened firing. Simultaneously, Pakistan Army also opened firing in violation of ceasefire agreement giving cover to the infiltrators.
However, effective retaliation by the troops thwarted the plot of the militants to infiltrate into this side. The militants were reported to have retreated to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) after finding the troops alert on this side.
Only yesterday, Army had killed two Pakistani militants and injured two others when they were trying to infiltrate into the Indian side from Bigial Dara in Poonch sector.
Troops were maintaining high alert on the LoC following reports that there could be more infiltration attempts in the coming days in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
This was the fifth ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in the last fortnight.
There was no death, injury or damage to anyone on this side of the LoC due to the firing, the spokesperson said.
On May 5, Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire and resorted to firing from automatic weapons on Indian posts along the LoC in Bhimber Gali area of Rajouri district.
On May 3, Pakistani troops had resorted to firing from small arms and automatic weapons on Indian posts along the LoC in Mendhar in Poonch district.
On April 28, Pakistani troops resorted to firing from small arms and automatic weapons on Indian posts along the LoC in Bhimber Gali in Rajouri district.
Pakistani troops had also violated the ceasefire on April 25 by firing with small arms and mortars on Indian posts in Doda battalion areas along the LoC in Poonch district.
There are inputs that militants have been trying to infiltrate into India and the firing was “probably a ploy to ensure infiltration of terrorists under the cover of firing”, officials said.
Meanwhile, Romeo Force of Army and police today recovered a consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives from a natural cave at village Thirka Choudh in Derknari forests falling under the jurisdiction of Darhal police station in Rajouri district, SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi said.
Recoveries made from the hideout included one AK rifle, two magazines, 20 rounds, four Chinese grenades, one wireless set, explosive material and three detonators.
However, no arrests were made from the spot. Police said the consignment appeared to be an old one as the area was hot bed of militancy till 2012.
