Indian Army Kolkata wins All India football meet

Patna, May 14: In a keenly contested final, Indian Army Kolkata today defeated Southern Samitee Kolkata 1-0 to win the 2nd All India Jananayak Karpoori Thakur Football Tournament at the Moin-Ul Haq Stadium.

After a tightly-fought goalless first half, both the teams kept the momentum going in the second half too but failed to score any goal, pushing the final into extra time.

In the sixth minute of the extra time, Nigerian Lallueu Mawia of the Army side found the target to help them emerge champions in the meet.

The Army side lifted the trophy and bagged the prize money of Rs 3 lakh while runners-up Southern Samitee were richer by Rs 2 lakh. (PTI)
