Debacle of coalition candidates due to polarization, misgovernance: Vakil

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, May 18: Former Minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Congress party lost its two seats in Jammu and one in Ladakh due to wrong decision of coalition partners by allowing everyone to come in the fray but attributed poor performance of coalition candidates in Kashmir valley to anger of common people against governance system.
“Definitely defeat is an unfortunate event but same was expected and inevitable in Valley because  dormant and casual approach of State Government towards governance and curbing corruption had become intolerable,” he said adding that if coalition Government would have taken cognizance of irregularities in different departments,  the situation would have been altogether different today.
The Cong leader said that he always tried to awaken the Government and requested it to pay attention to important income sectors particularly Tourism and Horticulture but ignorance was prevailing upon people at the helm of affairs.
While reminding NC of its political wrongs, Vakil said that even the sanctity and dignity of the House was mutilated by none other than NC itself. Withdrawing members from a House Committee of Legislative Council which was constituted to look into Forest land grabbing of a Minister set a wrong precedent and endangered existence of democratic institutions, he added and termed surrendering of Parliamentary seats by both the coalition partners as a political suicide.
The former Minister advised the coalition Government to utilize the remaining months in full and rededicate itself in achieving the developmental targets and put on track the governance system so that forthcoming Assembly elections could be contested by showcasing decent performance of the Government.
