Div Com inaugurates civil defence awareness camp

JAMMU, May 20: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu today stressed the need to train maximum number of youth in civil defence and disaster management keeping in view the challenges posed by natural and manmade disasters.
“Youth should get themselves trained and inspire others to be ready to save the life and property of the people in the event of disasters,” he said after inaugurating two day Civil Defence and Disaster Management Awareness Training Programme here today.
The awareness camp has been organized by the district administration in collaboration with ADGP Home Guards and State Disaster Responsive Force.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, who is also Controller Civil Defence Jammu, SSP Jammu, Atul Goyal, Col G R Kaushik from NDMA, New Delhi, ADC Jammu, senior officers of administration, police, volunteers, Panchs, Sarpanchs were also present.
Shantmanu asserted that in the present scenario there is dire need to make civil defence training as a part of daily life. He asked the volunteers and all other participants to ensure maximum involvement in civil defence activities and said that trained people could prove instrumental in managing the situation effectively besides building self confidence and concern for humanity among the masses.
The Div Com assured that a proposal for funds under civil defence would be forwarded to the Finance Commission so that the civil defence and disaster management activities are strengthened.
Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of disaster management and civil defence and emphasized on ground level preparedness. He said the workshop is aimed at imparting life saving skills and basic knowledge to the participants besides training on relief operations during disaster and use of latest methods and techniques. He asked them to constitute Disaster Management Committees at their level so as to impart training and awareness to the public. He stressed for close coordination among the concerned organizations for effective management of even the works situations.
On the occasion, mock drills exercises and training on different relief operations were also conducted to train the participants.
