JAMMU, May 20: Cultural Wing of State Information Department today organized symposium-cum-cultural programme in the premises of Louis Braille Memorial School for sightless girls at Roop Nagar, here this afternoon.
On the occasion, Director Social Welfare, M S Choudhary was the chief guest.
About five students from Louis Braille Memorial School for Sightless Girls and National Federation for the Blind, a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) spoke on the topic ‘Effects of Pollution on Civil Society’.
District Social Welfare Officer Sudhir Bali, Cultural Officer Information Department Raman Joshi, Principal of Louis Braille Memorial School for Sightless Girls, Anju Sharma besides representatives of National Federation for the blind including teaching and non-teaching staff members and students in large number were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Choudhary called upon the parents to send their children in blind school for their better future. He added that National Federation for the Blind institution has started various vocational courses for blind children especially girls so that they become a good citizen of the country. He said for this purpose, Social Welfare Department also launched various schemes to upgrade this section of the society.
The Director Social Welfare said that such type of events provide students a platform in presenting their hidden talent through their best performances.
Earlier, a colourful programme was presented jointly by students of blind school and artists of Cultural Wing of Information Department. The artists who presented cultural items included Jeevan Sharma, Vijay Anand, Surjit Singh Sumbaria, Neelam Gandotra, Sunil Sharma, Kamal Kumar and Bodh Raj.
