Kho-Kho Championship gets underway

SAMBA, May 20: Four Day Inter District State Level Kho-Kho Championship for Under-14 boys took off here today after the tournament was declared open by the Deputy Commissioner, Samba R K Verma.
Organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), about 210 students drawn from schools of 17 districts would participate in the sports event being held at Government Higher Secondary School Vijaypur.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO), Chief Education Officer Samba, besides teachers, staff and a large number of students were also present at the inaugural function.
It was informed that students from Anantnag, Baramulla, Kishtwar, Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Kupwara, Kulgam, Pulwama, Poonch, Reasi, Rajouri, Ramban, Samba, Shopian, Srinagar and Udhampur are participating in the sports event.
In his inaugural address, the DDC highlighted the importance of sports in the life of students. He said sports help to imbibe team work, discipline and self confidence, besides keeping the students healthy.
He said that the sports should be made an integral part of curriculum as it would enable the students to excel academically as well as physically and mentally.
Earlier, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Samba informed that it was for the first time that such a big event was organized   in Samba in which about 210 students from 17 districts of state are participating.
