SRINAGAR, May 20: Panchs and Sarpanchs of all parts of J&K have decided to maintain their non-political character and will not resign from their posts.
They said that people have given them mandate for developmental oriented programmes and therefore no Panch and Sarpanch should become the office bearer of any political organization.
In order to widen its reach to general public and communicate its pro-developmental programmes in right perspective to the people at large All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) along with more than 30 thousand Panchs and Sarpanchs today associated itself with Kashmir Society.
On the occasion, Chairman Kashmir Society Farooq Renzushah and Chairman AJKPC Mohammad Shafiq Mir and representatives of Panchayat Conference including Ghulam Hassan Panzu, Aftab Beg, Bashir Ahmad Malik, Imtiyaz Beg were present.
In the conference the positive role of Panchs and Sarpanchs in serving the people of the area particularly in road sector, NREGA, rural sector, social welfare, health, education and housing sector were highlighted.
While speaking on the occasion the Renzushah advised all the Panchs and Sarpanchs to devote themselves exclusively for developmental purposes.
Shafiq Ahmad Mir and other speakers expressed their concern for mounting of threat perceptions on Panchs and Sarpanchs for unknown reasons.
The speakers were of the opinion that it’s because of this institution being ignored by the concerned it has been made target as nobody wants to share their power with them and appease them by simple statements which receive negative reactions from other corners.
They appealed all concerned that henceforth they should be treated completely non political and no Panch or Sarpanch should be considered member of any political organization.
