JAMMU, May 21: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Regional Office Jammu is celebrating its 3rd Foundation Day on May 25, at IIIM auditorium with the presentation of a unique show featuring diverse traditions of the dances of Jammu and Kashmir. This was informed here, today by the Regional Director ICCR, Balwant Thakur in a press briefing at the ICCR Headquarters, Jammu.
Giving a detailed account about the two eventful years of ICCR in Jammu, Balwant Thakur added that ICCR’s Jammu Regional Centre was inaugurated by Dr. Karan Singh, President of ICCR on 25th May, 2012 and within a span of two years ICCR has established Jammu as an International destination of cultural happenings. In the last one a and two years, ICCR organized 37 major cultural events which included three International presentations. The first in the series to come from outside India was the dances of Zambia. This amazing presentation was an eye opener for everyone and people out here were exposed to the International standards of performances and presentations.
This was followed by the presentation of the music and dances of LAOS presented by a group of the musicians and dancers of People’s Democratic Republic of LAOS. The last group in the series was a JAZZ band from Poland. During this period a cultural troupe of Jammu also went for cultural presentations to Central Asian Countries and visited Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan.
