Curfew in Poonch as precautionary measure

JAMMU : A curfew was imposed today in the bordering Poonch town of Jammu and Kashmir following tense situation after a girl of minority community was slapped by a local youth, police sources here said.
“Hundreds of members of Sikh community this morning took out a protest march amid slogans demanding arrest of the culprit, who allegedly slapped a girl of the community in full public view,” sources here told.
They said partial bandh was also observed in the Poonch town this morning against the incident.
The Sikhs were demanding immediate action against the accused, who is still at large.
“A curfew has been imposed as a precautionary measure in the morning in view of prevailing situation to maintain law and order situation,” a senior police official said. He said that the situation is being closely monitored. Poonch town yesterday observed bandh when a boy identified as Jameel Ahmed, a resident of Dalhaan, who is an auto-rickshaw driver ‘slapped’ a Sikh girl when the duo had heated arguments over an issue while the girl was travelling in his auto.
