KATHUA, May 24: The enforcement staff of Drugs and Food Control Organization today seized large quantity of intoxicants.
According to an official spokesman, Drugs and Food Control Organization, on specific inputs, the enforcement staff of the Organization laid a naka at Toll Post, Lakhanpur, Kathua with active cooperation of Excise and Police authorities.
During search of a Jammu bound bus bearing registration number UP22T-6533, 538 bottles of intoxicants were seized.
The spot verification indicated the consignments belonging to Wajahat Hussain, son of Mohammad Abdullah of Surankot, Poonch was presumably being brought for misuse by adolescents. The said person could not provide any information about source/ mode of procurement of the above consignments.
The Inspector of Drugs has initiated the investigation under the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act and issued notice to the above said person under section 18 (B) of the said Act. Legal action contemplated under law would follow in due course of time.
Deputy Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organization, Lotika Khajuria has impressed upon the trade members to exercise utmost restraint over sale of drugs containing habit forming ingredients. She has further stated that offenders found linked with Drug abuse would be dealt with sternly.
