Swstik excels in National Meteorological Olympiad

JAMMU, Jan 17: Swstik Sharma, an 8th-grade student from Jammu, has secured second place in the recently held National Meteorological Olympiad, organized to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). He is a student at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sunjwan Military Station, Jammu.
He was honoured by Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, IMD, at a ceremony in New Delhi. The Met-Olympiad aimed to foster enthusiasm and awareness about weather and climate sciences among young students. Participants had the opportunity to test their knowledge and engage in various meteorological challenges.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of IMD and launched the IMD Vision-2047 document, which outlines strategies for enhancing weather resilience and combating climate change. The event also saw the participation of Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Professor Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), along with officials from neighboring countries and regions.
Swstik is one of three students from Jammu and Kashmir to excel in the competition. His parents, Dr. Gautam Sharma, a dental surgeon, and Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, a CMO, have expressed immense pride in his achievement.
