Sir,
Come summer and it is the season of power shortage and numerous scheduled and unscheduled power cuts in Jammu Province. The people whether living in metered or non-metered areas experience more than 8 hrs power cuts daily. As a result, the daily routine of people gets disturbed beyond description, besides halting development process. The Power Development Department has failed to find a permanent solution to the problem, except resorting to these cuts.
The Government should embark on power reforms. These reforms are quite necessary in order to meet the supply-demand requirement. The issues related to transmission and distribution tariff need a fresh appraisal.
Power is a critical input for the growth of the State economy and its shortage is certainly going to affect it. Mere purchasing power from other States at exorbitant rates will not address the issue but it will burden the exchequer further, and in turn will add to the misery of people reeling under high inflation and price rise.
The Government must embark on power reform mission to get rid of the horrible power situation in the State.
Yours etc…
