PHE workers stage protest at BC Road complex

JAMMU, May 28: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association members held protest demonstration at City Division, B C Road here today projecting burning issues of the PHE workers.
State president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress and provincial president of WWEA, Shiv Kumar Sharma was leading the protest. A large number of daily rated, CP and consolidated workers also  participated. The speakers expressed their  deep anguish and concern over the callous and dilly-dallying attitude of the officers of PHE with regard to resolving pending issues of  the workers.
Shiv Kumar in his address, advised the administration to properly look after the property of the department. He pointed out that officers are  only renovating their offices while motor rooms, chowkidars’ quarters are still awaiting the repair work. He condemned the policy of  the Government for engaging daily rated and CP workers in bulk whereas, payment of the already engaged workers is pending for the last 2-3 years. He said if the Government intends to engage workers, first make provision for their wages.
The INTUC leader also demanded hike in the  minimum wages  limit as per standing Government order to Rs 150 per day. During these hard times it is not possible to work on meager amount of  Rs 1000, Rs 1500 or Rs 2100,  he   maintained.
He also stressed upon the authorities to hold DPC of all cadre and resolve the pending issues till May 31, 2014, otherwise employees would be forced to launch strong agitation.
