JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the future of alliance with Congress depends on National Conference workers and if they decide against it then party’s top leadership will abide by them.
“If you (party workers) would like to be in alliance with Congress we will respect your views and if you decide against it then there will be no forcing by anyone of us working at the top level,” Omar told workers here today.
Omar, who is NC Working President, told the party workers that he will “abide by the decision of the party rank and file regarding any future alliance with the Congress.”
The NC leader also said that while introspecting the causes of the defeat in the Parliament election many workers and party leaders “have pointed towards the alliance with Congress.”
However, he said that NC “truly upheld the coalition trait” and never took any step unilaterally in the process of development and giving governance to the people.
Omar said most of the departments particularly R&B, PHE, Health, School Education, Housing, Irrigation, Agriculture, Urban Development, Medical Education were given to the members of coalition partners.
The NC leader said he did not believe in “blame game” but both NC and Congress are “equally responsible” for all the good or bad work done.
“We have fought the Parliamentary election on national issues and did not touch the work done by the coalition government in the state because state was not going in the Assembly polls,” he said.
Omar told party workers to hit the street and connect with the people.
“It is your duty to spread the information about the work done by of government among the people,” he said.
“Spread this information at all levels particularly at the grass roots so that people are aware about the work done by coalition government,” Omar said.
Omar asked the workers to gear up for Assembly polls and visit each household giving it the full account and details of the work of National Conference led government in the state.
“You have to rekindle the faith of people in the policy programmes of National Conference,” he said. (Agencies)
