AKHNOOR, June 6: Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Kanchan Bala declared the State Level Inter-District Under-14 Boys and Girls Volleyball Tournament open in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Government Higher Secondary School, here today.
The Tournament, in which 19 district teams are participating in the boys section and 10 in the girls category, is being held under the patronage of Navin Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Kanchan advised the players to show discipline and team spirit while vying for the top honours.
In Under-14 boys, Rajouri outplayed Doda by 2-0 sets with (25-11, 25-12), Shopian got better of Budgam by 2-0 sets with (25-13, 25-15), Pulwama prevailed over Kupwara by 2-1 sets with (19-25,25-17, 15-10), Gandarbal beat Samba by 2-0 sets with (25-20,25-21), Rajouri trounced Poonch by 2-0 sets with (25-18, 25-14), Bandipora defeated Reasi by 2-0 sets with (25-23,25-23), Ramban drubbed Srinagar by 2-0 sets with (25-9, 25-23) and Jammu got walkover against Kishtwar.
In Under-14 girls, Samba outclassed Rajouri by 2-0 sets with (25-18, 25-14) and Baramulla got better of Kupwara by 2-0 sets with (25-15, 25-9).
The matches were officiated by Manik Nargotra, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Mohd Tariq and Mahadev Singh.
