JAMMU, June 14: Terming the game of cricket as a religion for the modern youth, the Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture said that the talent of this euphoric game needed to be honed, for that matter, the Cricket Administrators should serve like the architects to polish the skill of the players to help them blossom at the higher levels.
The Minister said this while inaugurating the Summer-cum-Talent Hunt Camp of Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
Lavishing praise for the organizers in holding this mega cricketing extravaganza, Mr Bhalla said the Govt is committed to promote sports in nooks and corners of the State and is developing sufficient infrastructure in both the regions of the State.
He said the projects of Rs 10 crore each have been sanctioned in both the regions in the form of Sports Training Centres, adding that the various schemes like Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan and PYKKA have been undertaken to enhance sports infrastructure and promote sports in the State.
Quoting example of renovation of MA Stadium and the seating arrangement of its pavilion, Mr Bhalla said efforts are on to establish an International Standard Stadium in the State.
N K Rasutra, Principal, GGM Science College was the guest of honour. Over 500 cricketers in various age groups including Ranji Trophy turned up for the Camp.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Sudershan Mehta, Joint Secretary of the Association appraised the gathering that the performance of the players in the camp will be the basis for their selection in various age groups. He thanked various coaches and working committee members for providing support and assistance. Mehta also thanked JKCA President, Dr Farooq Abdullh for his overall patronage and support.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Arvinder Singh Mickey, Chairman, JKCA, Rakesh Kumar, Vice Chairman, JKCA, Jammu wing and Working Committee Members including Chaman Lal Chrangoo, Ashinder Koul, Parveen Kapahi, Chaman Lal Suri, Kanya Lal, Ravinder Singh, Rajesh Dhar, Anil Khajuria, Vivek Sharma, Sandeep Gupta, Vijay Sharma, Hardev Singh Jamwal, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Rajeev Pandita, besides former Ranji Trophy players, Vinod Kumar Sharma, Rakesh Chopra, Nirmal Singh, Sanjay Sharma, Pardeep Bali, Ashwani Gupta, Sandeep Singh, and coaches Randhir Singh, Ajay Vaid, Surjeet Singh, Brij Mohan Sharma, Ravi Sharma, Madam Mohan, Roopali Slathia, Anju Gupta, Anuradha Sharma, Anita Gupta and Sakita Sharma.
