JAMMU, June 22: To lodge protest against power cuts, workers of the Dogra Front and Shiv Sena, led by Ashok Gupta, took out a procession in Jammu city.
Shouting slogans against the Government and PDD, they also torched an effigy. They warned to stop paying the electricity bills if regular power is not supplied in Jammu.
While addressing the protesters, Ashok Gupta strongly criticized the Government for not providing electricity to Jammu people despite regular paying of electricity bills by them.
Parade Division electricity expenditure is Rs 135 crore out of which they have incurred Rs 115 crores as the revenue and Rs 20 crores is the balance of the Government Departments and the reason behind not giving electricity is that people should not be able to consume the electricity, he added.
Mr Gupta demanded construction of another Receiving Station of 50 MW at Janipur to tide over the power crisis in the Jammu constituency.
Long curtailment of power has made the life of people miserable while the students are the worst sufferers, he said and held Chief Minister Omar Abdullah solely responsible for the mess. “Omar Abdullah, who is also the Power Minister, has failed to initiate action to improve the power supply in the State,” he said.
Others who addressed the dharna, included Birbal, Ramesh Kumar, Rakesh and Gyanchand.
