SRINAGAR, June 25:  Secretary, Tourism Department, Zafar Ahmed Bhat in presence of SSP Kashmir, Mr. Amit Kumar and Director Tourism, Talat Parvaz flagged off the Shikarathon Race at Nehru Park Srinagar. The event is part of the 9-Day Kashmir Summer Festival.
The Shikarathon was sponsored by the Tourism Department Kashmir and organised by the 92.7 FM in which 40 Shikarawala participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Tourism Zafar Ahmed highlighted the importance of sports events for promoting the tourism related activities in Kashmir.  He said more and more sports events should be held covering various events and activities to encourage maximum participation of youth. He further said that Tourism Department has decided to organize Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring events in Kashmir to attract more and more tourists.
Later, Mr. Zafar distributed cash prize of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
Among others SDPO, Nehru Park, Dr. Vinod Kumar was present on the occasion.
Earlier, Talat Aziz, Director Tourism in presence of DIG, Traffic flagged off the Cyclothon race from Nishat to  Gantal Dhara, Harwan Srinagar and distributed cash prize of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 to the winners and trophies and mementos  among the participants.
