Sakina for encouraging women entrepreneurs in far off areas

SRINAGAR, June 26: To make women aware of various welfare schemes, State Women Development Corporation (WDC) organised a day long Awareness Camp at Dooru, Shahbad today.
Minister for Social Welfare, ARI and Training, Sakina Itoo was the chief guest and Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir was the guest of honour on this occasion.
The main objective of the camp was to make women aware about various issues including health, personal hygiene besides various welfare schemes launched by Education, Health and Social Welfare Department for their betterment.
Director Social Welfare, Director Health Services, Director Education Kashmir, MD, Women Development Corporation were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the participants, Ms Sakina said that such events are of immense importance to make the targeted population aware about the schemes in vogue. She underlined need for holding such more camps across the State, adding that such camps play a pivotal role in strengthening  and empowering the women.
Ms Sakina stressed for encouraging beneficiaries to take up joint economic activities to become self reliant. She said the financial institution of state and nationalized banks functioning in the districts are ready for the financing their small units.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Tourism, Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Mir advised the participants to come forward and to take benefit of the schemes for  establishing their own income generating units imperative for financial independence and empowerment of women.
Cheques worth Rs. 72 lakh were distributed among the beneficiaries under the various schemes.
Earlier, the Managing Director, JKWDC, Dr Nahida Soz gave detailed resume of the schemes and highlighted various activities and achievements of WDC.
