16 students of Jammu get State rank in International Olympiad

JAMMU, July 5: The 16 students of Jammu have made the city proud by securing State ranks in International Olympiad Awards, 2013-14 organized by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) with the Association of The British Council and BBC Knowledge recently in Delhi.
Those getting State rank were Aika Mahajan, class 2nd from Banyan International School in International English Olympiad category, Alankrit Mahajan, class 10 from K C International School in International Mathematics Olympiad, Nalin Mujoo, class 9 from Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 in National Science Olympiad, Samyak, class 4 from Heritage School in National Cyber Olympiad and Shuvang Jandiyal, class 11 from KC International School in National Science Olympiad.
Justice Dipak Misra, Judge Supreme Court of India was chief guest at the awards function which was held at The Chinmaya Mission Auditorium in Delhi. The guests of honour, Prof YS Rajan, Chairman NIT Manipur, Richard Everett-Director Education, British Council India and Suprama Misra also recorded their presence.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Dipak Misra emphasized on the need of humility and sincerity in students, parents and teachers.
He asked the winners to be ambitious, but analyze their inadequacies too.
Mahabir Singh, the Founder & Executive Director of SOF said that over 27,000 schools from 1360 cities across India and 16 countries participated in the Olympiad exams during 2013-14 and millions of students appeared in the Olympiads.
About 24,000 students from 3,350 schools have been awarded for achieving top State level ranks. Close to 4,60,000 students have been awarded “Medals of Excellence”, for achieving top ranks in their respective schools. A certificate of participation and a personalized performance analysis report is also provided to each student in their school.”
He said besides Olympiads that SOF also provided an annual scholarship of Rs 5000 each to 300 meritorious girl children from economically weaker section under the Girl Child Scholarship Scheme (GCSS). It also provided scholarship of Rs 5000 each to 120 students excelling in English language. SOF was also sending students to Singapore to attend a Computing Program in association with The National University of Singapore. It also conducted Teachers’ Training Programs, through British Council to share improved educational techniques with teachers.
