14 injured in group clash at Bhaderwah

JAMMU, July 31: At least 14 persons were injured in clash between two groups of majority community over taking control of management of a religious places at village Sartingal on the outskirts of Bhaderwah town in Doda district this evening.
Police said the two groups had an old dispute over taking control of the management of Sartingal Masjid but had struck a truce with the efforts of Bhaderwah police.
This evening one of the groups headed by Master gave an `azaan’ in the Masjid, which was objected to by the other group headed by Showkat Peer. This led to altercation between the two groups followed by full fledged clash with both sides using lathis.
At least 14 persons were injured in the clash, SSP Doda Mohammad Sharief Chouhan said.
SHO Bhaderwah Inspector Bandeshwar Singh Manhas rushed to the spot along with police personnel and controlled the warring groups. Situation was brought under control after half an hour long clashes. Police has been deployed in strength at Sartingal.
Police shifted 14 injured to Sub District Hospital at Bhaderwah from where six of them were referred to Government Medical College, Jammu.
Condition of one of them identified as Farooq Ahmad was stated to be serious.
Bhaderwah police has registered a case and started further investigations.
