JAMMU, Aug 2: Describing divisive politics as toxic for democratic polity and homogeneity of a state like Jammu and Kashmir, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Saturday said fundamentalists of any religion, region, party or social group were treading dangerous path of dividing people on religious and regional lines.
“J&K can flourish as a single entity, irrespective of religious or regional affiliations and any deviation from this cherished agenda will lead the state to chaos and confusion”, he said while addressing party functionaries and workers at a felicitation function here this evening.
Mr Rana stressed the need for identifying polarizing forces, saying they were detrimental for a cohesive society like ours, whose only mission is to incite passions with sole agenda of generating suspicion in public mind and create ill will between communities. “Those believing in politics of polarization were negating the spirit of democracy”, he said and asserted his party’s pledge to foil all these forces singlemindedly.
“National Conference has all along given a befitting reply to such elements who were in habit of polarizing the situation for garnering support and enriching their political harvest”, he said, adding that these elements stand exposed before the people, who believe in co-existence, peace and harmony.
Mr Rana said National Conference has a proven record of public service with focus on development and priority on heralding peace in a state like Jammu and Kashmir. “Omar led Government has succeeded in this twin objective that had been eluding the state for a long”, he said and dwelt on the achievements of the Government during the past nearly six years in every sector of development.
He congratulated Dharam Vir Singh Jamwal for his candidature from Jammu West saying this is an acknowledgment of his selfless service towards the people in his capacity as Deputy Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation and unblemished work in improving civic landscape of the city. He also lauded the role of dynamic party cadre in the city that has all along maintained a rapport with the people and missed no opportunity in seeking redressal to their difficulties.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jamwal said he has been pursuing a mission to see this temple city attain the grandeur it deserves as a most popular pilgrim destination and gateway to scenic Kashmir Valley. “For this each one of us will have to work hard and with a sense of purpose to build a strong and vibrant Jammu, which will be symbol of its rich ethos and composite culture”, he maintained.
