JAMMU, Aug 7: Harshdev Singh, chairman JKNPP and former Education Minister, has lambasted the State Government for total collapse of RMSA scheme in the State thus depriving millions of eligible students of the benefits envisaged under the scheme.
Making a special mention of the school upgradation scheme under RMSA, Mr Singh said that the GoI sanctioned 110 High Schools for the State under upgradation programme in April 2014 and provided Rs one crore for infrastructure creation for each of the said schools. “However, none of the sanctioned schools has been made functional despite the commencement of the new academic year,” he said and alleged that opening of said 110 schools was being deliberately delayed and avoided as more than 60 percent of the sanctioned schools fall in Jammu region.
Mr Singh further flayed the department for its failure to initiate any action in respect of opening of Model Schools sanctioned by GoI in backward blocks of the State. GoI has sanctioned Rs 4 crore approximately for the Model schools but not a single penny had been utilized during the last three years, he said. Likewise he pointed out that Girls Hostels costing Rs 3.50 crore had been sanctioned for various educationally Backward Blocks but the Government had failed to utilize even a single penny under the scheme. Urging upon the Deputy Chief Minister to act tough against defaulting and delinquent officers of Education Department, he sought early implementation of sanctioned schemes under RMSA.
