JAMMU, Aug 8: Vikramaditya Singh, elder son of former Sadar-e-Riyasat and Member Parliament (MP) Rajya Sabha, Dr Karan Singh, today joined People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in presence of thousands of people.
PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and president of the party, Mehbooba Mufti formally inducted Vikramaditya Singh into the party.
Addressing the gathering, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said today’s development is going to change political discourse of the State because this event would be a turning point in cementing relations between Jammu and Kashmir regions.
He asked Vikramaditya to play an important role to change history of J&K.
Without naming any political party, Mufti regretted that political leaders, both at the Centre and State level, have miserably failed to remove the inter-regional trust deficit in J&K. “Instead of bridging the gap, some political parties, for petty gains, have further widen this divide”, he regretted.
Mehbooba Mufti, who visited Jammu first time after winning Lok Sabha elections, said that results of Parliament polls were an indication that change was imminent in J&K. “We want that Jammu should be part of movement for change”, she said and reminded the people that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, as chief minister of the State, had set an example of good governance by treating all regions and sub-regions equally.
Addressing the function, Vikramaditya Singh, said “I joined PDP by convictions not compulsion. It will be my endeavour to strive for cause of the common people”.
Eminent economist, Hasib Drabu, in his address, said that Vikramaditya Singh has joined PDP with conviction to serve the people.
