JAMMU, Aug 12:
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, has directed the chairman, general secretary and treasurer of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to appear in person on August 21 with a detailed report of the accounts of the association.
According to sources, the CJM Court today asked the JKCA chairman Arvinder Singh Micky, general secretary M L Nehru and treasurer Ghulam Mohammad Bhat to appear in person before the court against a complaint filed by one of the members of the working committee regarding alleged deposit of two cheques into the personal account of Association Vice-Chairman Rakesh Kumar instead of Jammu Wing of the Association.
“On August 8, the CJM Court also issued showcause notice to the chairman and SP City East Zone, Srinagar, Harmeet Singh for contempt of the court order,” sources said.
In a show cause notice issued to the Chairman and the SP City East Zone, the court said, “You are asked to show cause why you be not proceeded for contempt of court in the light of allegations and for disobedience and obstruction in the administration of justice, before this court on August 12, 2014.”
According to the latest complaint filed by one of the members of the JKCA’s working committee, two cheques of Rs 50,000 each have been deposited into the personal account of vice-chairman instead of the account of the cricket body’s Jammu wing, which is jointly operated by the two office-bearers.
The order was passed following a complaint filed by a former Ranji player who informed the court that Rs one lakh was transferred to a private account from the money out of released CDRs of the association.
After the expose of the 2012 funds scam in JKCA, the new office bearers had got the CDRs released from the court on certain terms and conditions.
A Srinagar court had recently also granted a anticipatory bail to JKCA secretary general M L Nehru, against whom a lower court had ordered filing of an of FIR and directed authorities to freeze the bank accounts of the association. “Praveen Kapahi, who is the member working committee and the complainant, is creating hurdles in the development of the cricket activities in Jammu,” JKCA chairman said.
Mr Micky said some of the members of the Jammu Wing do not want to see cricket growing in the region and instead they wanted to “misappropriate” funds.
Due to the hiccups created by some vested interests, the accounts have been frozen due to which we are not able to provide the details of expenditure incurred on the activities to the BCCI,” said the JKCA chairman. He further said no further money was being released by the Board and the cricketing activities in the Jammu region have been hampered, adding, “I have been made a party under a planned conspiracy as I have neither signed the cheque nor touched that money”.(UNI)
