SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Underscoring the importance of vocational education in cohesion with advanced higher education Mohammad Akbar Lone Minister for Higher Education today said that it is need of hour to provide job oriented courses at College and at University levels to meet the needs and requirements of youth.
He also underlined the basic aim of higher education which is based on the concept of broader vision, moral values, community service, tolerance, justice, character development and patience besides intellectual enhancement and stabilization of society.
This was stated by the Minister, while addressing a gathering on the occasion of a day-long inter-College Debate competition on “Higher education is above Job Orientation” held at SP College Srinagar here.
Among others, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, Nodal Principal Colleges for Kashmir Division, Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Chatt, Principal S.P College, Prof. Yaseen Ahmad Shah, former Principals of the College, Staff, besides a large gathering of students from various Colleges attended the seminar.
Expressing his views on the topic of the debate, Mr. Lone said that Government is giving focused attention to the higher education sector and emphasis is being laid for providing vocational courses coupled with innovative and modern technological trends so that educated youth could get better employment opportunities in public as well as private sector.
The Minister said that education is powerful weapon which gives birth to peacemakers and helps make this world a better place to live in besides paving way for prosperity, development and upliftment of societies.
Over 40 students from various Colleges across the Valley participated in the debate and threw light on the topic.
Later, the Minister gave away the awards among the winning participants. Mansoor Ashraf of Amar Singh College was adjudged as first, while Khakashan Amin and Mariya Zulal from Govt Degree College for Women Baramulla and Women’s College M.A road Srinagar claimed second and third position respectively.
