SRINAGAR, July 16: The 2nd goodwill football match between JK-XI and Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata will be played at Degree College, Baramulla on July 17 at 2.30 p.m.
This was stated by the Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib at a Press Conference here today.
Chib said that the Match which will be played at Degree College (DC), Baramulla is a sequel of commitment made between Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata and the hosts. He appealed the people especially of Baramulla district to visit the venue to witness the match.
The Minister termed yesterday goodwill football match which was won by JK-XI by 5-2 a successful one. He said that the state has ample sport potential particularly in football, adding that the need is to shape it in a befitting way. He said the mammoth gathering yesterday at Bakshi Stadium to witness the match proved that the football is a popular game in the Valley.
Extolling the players of JKXI football team for playing consistently throughout the match, Chib also applauded the players of guest team for playing skillfully.
Chib conveyed his gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for witnessing the match and said that his presence encouraged both the teams. He also thanked Union Minister of State for Home Jatinder Singh who visited the state and witnessed the match.
The Minister appreciated the people for their cooperation and patience in and outside the venue during match. He also thanked Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata for accepting invitation to play friendly matches with the host team. He also appreciated the Divisional and District administration and police force for dealing calmly with the people.
Later, the Minister Visited Degree College, Baramulla and inspected the ground fixed for the conduct of event. He directed the concerned officers to work with close coordination to make the event a success.
Among others, the Minister was accompanied by the Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Vinod Koul, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Dalip Thussu, officials of Department of Youth Services and Sports and J&K &K Football Association.
