JAMMU, July 17: A major fire broke out in Shalamar branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) tonight causing damage to computers and other accessories but the bank chest and lockers were intact.
SDPO City Kulbir Handa said the fire in the bank was detected at 8.45 pm. Immediately, the fire fighting personnel were sounded.
City police teams and Punjab Police guards, deployed at the bank, took preventive measures to stop the fire from spreading. The police personnel and the fire fighting jawans controlled the flames before it could engulf the branch and cause damage to bank chest and locker.
Two computers and some other accessories were damaged in the blaze.
Police said the bank officials also reached the spot to assess the damage.
Reasons behind the fire were being ascertained. A case has been registered at City police station.
