SRINAGAR : There are 3.02 lakh families without ration cards in Jammu and Kashmir, Legislative Assembly was informed today.
In a written reply on the opening day of the six-day-long session here, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan in a written reply to a question by Mohammad Khalil Band said the Centre is allocating the foodgrains under all categories as per the projected population of 2000 to the state. However, he said, the ration is being supplied by the CA&PD as per population of census of 2001. Mr Ramzan said because of this gap, there are approximately 3.02 lakh families without ration cards in the state.
He said as and when the Union government enhances the quota of foodgrains for covering the 2011 census population, the ration cards shall be provided to left over families. Mr Ramzan in the written reply to Mr Band, who also wanted to know about four constituencies — Pulwama, Tral, Rajpora and Pampore, said there are 41,146 families without ration tickets.
