1947 displaced persons allotted evacuee land in Jammu

Srinagar, Aug 25: Lakhs of kanals of evacuee land has been allotted to displaced persons of 1947 and the locals in districts of Samba and Jammu.
Evacuee land measuring 1,02,251 kanals and eight marlas stand allotted in favour of displaced persons of 1947 and land measuring 1,46,283 kanals and six marlas is under the possession of land allottees, the Government today informed the Legislative Council.
In a written reply to the question of National Conference’s MLC, Master Noor Hussain, Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Ajaz Ahmad Khan informed the Council that in district Jammu an area of evacuee land measuring 3,65,159 kanals and one marla stands allotted to the displaced persons of 1947 and land measuring 153,159 kanals is with local allotees.
The properties left behind by those people who migrated to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan after partition were declared evacuee properties under the J&K State Evacuees (Administration of Properties) Act.
Khan said that no illegal construction for commercial or residential purpose is reportedly going on in Jammu as well as in Kashmir divisions on the evacuee land.
He said the Revenue Department has been geared up either to regularize the possession on payment of premium and ground rent in accordance with policy or guidelines framed by the Government or to get the illegal possession vacated in terms of J&K State (Evacuee Administration of Property) Act SVt 2006 and the rules framed there under.
