*Omar highlights sacrifices of martyrs

SRINAGAR, July 18: Prem Kumar struck twice to help Jammu and Kashmir Bank outplay Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala in the final of Police Martyr’s Memorial Football Tournament at Bakshi Stadium, here today.
Kumar pelted both the goals for the Bank team on either side of the breather of the match, one in 26th minute of the first half and another in 85th minute of the match.
The RCF team, which was trailing after conceding the first goal in the 26th minute, tried its level best to get an equaliser but failed in its efforts, as the Bank players played like a cohesive unit and all the players displayed superb skills.
The visitors, though, left no stone unturned in searching for the equalizer, yet ended up conceding another goal in last 5 minutes of the match.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was the chief guest on the occasion.
Meanwhile, paying rich tributes to J&K Police Martyrs the Chief Minister said that martyrs gave away their lives to safeguard the future of the State and make its present peaceful. He said that the families of martyrs need focused attention for their welfare and rehabilitation. “They have given their dare ones for the safety and security of the State and its people”, he said assuring all support of the government to martyrs’ families for their development and well being.
Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports, R S Chib gave away trophies to winners and runners up teams as also the individual prizes to the participating players.
Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, various lagislators, GoC 15 Corps Lt. Gen. Om Prakash and various senior police and civil officers witnessed the final.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Police, K. Rajindra highlighted the sacrifices made by the J&K Police Jawans for peace and security of the State and its people. He said that Police Department commemorates this sacrifice of the martyrs by organizing Martyrs Football Tournament which is a unique tournament of its kind in the country.
