JAMMU, Sept 1: The residents of Akhnoor town and adjoining areas today held strong protest demonstration against the Border Roads Organisation/ GREF authorities for not repairing a kutcha patch of nearly 500 mt road from `Fawara Chowk to Sungal Morh on Jourian-Pallanwalla road.
The people irrespective of their political affiliations with different parties, supported by local Beopar Mandal members assembled at the main Chowk in Akhnoor town during the day and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against GREF authorities. They sat on dharna on the road and disrupted movement of traffic for about an hour. The locals alleged that for the last over three and half years, the GREF has left this patch as unattended and it was not repaired. They have turned a blind eye towards the problem being faced by public.
Later, two senior officials from GREF reached the spot and assured the agitating people that this patch would be black-topped within two weeks. The people then lifted dharna and allowed movement of vehicular traffic.
