SRINAGAR, Sept 2: In order to popularize the use and application of Geo-Spatial Technology amongst the Geographers, Scientists and Researchers, a 21-day DST sponsored training program on Geospatial Technologies (GST) by Department of Geography & Regional Development, University of Kashmir, started here at KU on Tuesday.
The inaugural function of the program was held at Gandhi Bhawan during which faculty members and research scholars from various Universities of the country including Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Bhartidasan University, Tamil Nadu, Mysore University, Karnataka, Pondicherry University, NIT, Srinagar, SKUAST Kashmir and faculty members from KU and from various colleges of the Jammu and Kashmir State were present.
On the inaugural day of the program, renowned Geographers and Geospatial Technologists while interacting with the participants, stressed upon the need to disseminate the knowledge, findings, data and information amongst the various stakeholders for capacity building in Geospatial education and technologies so that benefits of this technology may trickle down at grassroot level.
Dr Y V N Krishna Murthy, Director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Department of Space, while talking about the advantages of Geospatial Technology, delved upon the various developments like e-learning which had been introduced recently at the national level to effectively disseminate knowledge in the field of Geospatial education.
Presiding over the inaugural session, Vice Chancellor KU, Prof AM Shah stressed upon inculcating scholarly values for deriving benefits from developments in Science & Technology.
Prof S M Rashid, Ex Pro-Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia and a renowned Geographer, highlighted the importance of organizing such courses and impressed upon the participants to derive maximum benefits from this training program so that they can apply these technologies in their respective fields of interest.
