JAMMU, Sept 3: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today ordered enhanced supply of power to Jagti township of Kashmiri migrants, situated in Nagrota area on city outskirts.
The decision was taken after National Conference Member Legislative Council Vijay Bakaya took up the issue during his meeting with the Chief Minister.
He sought enhanced power supply to the township by increasing the number of hours, bringing it at par with the adjoining areas. Mr Abdullah immediately issued instructions to the Power Development Department for increasing the duration of the power supply.
Mr Bakaya, who was accompanied by Provincial President National Conference, Devender Singh Rana, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for immediate response to the problems being encountered by the migrants on account of power supply in Jagti. Mr Bakaya also discussed various other issues for welfare of Kashmiri migrants in Jammu and elsewhere.
When contacted Chief Engineer, M&RE Jammu, Shahnaz Goni told Excelsior that the Government has decided to enhance power supply to Jagti township and there will be only routine eight hour power cut in the township also as is prevalent in other metered areas of Jammu.
She said the Government has taken a decision in this regard.
It may be recalled that the enhancement in power supply to 16 hours a day was the long pending demand of Jagti township inmates.
