Govt urged to launch relief, rescue operations on war footing

JAMMU, Sept 7: Expressing his deep grief and shock over the loss of life and massive damage caused to properties across the State in general and outskirts of Jammu city in particular, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment, Amrik Singh Reen today demanded that relief and rescue operations should be started on far-footing. He regretted that miseries of flood affected people were compounding with every passing day and there was a need to intensify relief operations without wasting even a minute.
Reen, along with other senior leaders of the party, conducted an extensive tour of the flood affected areas of Gandhi Nagar assembly segment.
Meanwhile senior PDP leader Arshad Malik today demanded that teams should be immediately deputed to Mahore, Arnas, Gool and other hilly areas of Reasi and Ramban districts where flash floods have caused massive devastation resulting in damage to lot many house.
Republican party leader Mir Ghulam Rasool also demanded immediate relief be paid to affected people in Sherpathri like Rabitar, Kurd and other villages where the floods have created havoc and administration totally failed to evict them.
He however welcomed the brave people of Shalbug Ganderbal who with their collective efforts during last night gave a protection band to river Sindh which was all set to over flow through the village after a breach in the bund and could have caused a lot of devastation in the village.
He accused the administration of not taking adequate steps in rescuing the marooned people and said that a large number of houses have inundated in Shalteng area of Bemina also and people are in great distress.
Meanwhile the Kashmiri Pandit organizations while expressing concern about the safety of the members of their community working in Kashmir Valley said that the displaced employees in Indira Nagar and other places have not been sifted to safer places where one story of houses is in flood water. They said that these employees have passes sleepless nights for last two days.
They urged the Government to shift them to safer places.
Meanwhile a social and political activist from Kalakote, Abdul Gani Kohli has alleged that their administration has totally failed to provide relief to rainfall affected areas of Rajouri district, today.
In a statement, Kohli has said that in different areas of Kalakote such as Badhal, Khas, Kot Chadwal, Lala Bambal, Lachani, Darang, Hari Chamna people are awaiting relief and rescue but administration is not doing enough.
“Hundreds of people have been displaced due to the recent rain fall and there has been devastation in the entire Rajouri district. Government and Indian Army should take immediate measures to provide relief to the affected people”,  Kohli said.
He demanded Government should provide immediate help to victims.
Central body meeting of all J&K Prajapati Sabha was held at its head quarter wherein zonal chairmen from all Jammu province participated under the chairmanship of Ayodhya Kumar Manwa, president of the Sabha.
All the members and the president expressed their grief over loss of several lives and properties due to natural calamity of heavy rains and devastating floods in whole of the State. The president of the Sabha also extended deep sympathies for the bereaved families.
It urged the Government that the safety of the people trapped in the flood affected areas be ensured and immediate steps be taken to shift them at safer places and all essential commodities be provided for their survival.
