Jammu, Sept 8: Stressing upon the State Government to make fair and judicious use of the funds and other resources received from Narendra Modi led Union Government for relief and rehabilitation of rains and flash floods affected areas and people, BJP State President & MP Jugal Kishore Sharma said that the natural calamity has caused immense destruction and losses and hence whatever resources are made available need to be put to most efficient and best use.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while addressing media persons at Party Headquarters along with Marh constituency MLA Sukhnandan Kumar and Akhnoor District President Daljeet Singh, said that last week’s heavy rains and floods have devoured hundreds of precious lives besides causing total loss of standing crops, collapse and severe damages to dwelling houses, washing away of roads and connecting bridges and the resultant large scale migration of the people have put the normal life totally out of gear and to grave risk.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that soon after the occurrences of destruction, the Central Government took the initiative and announced assistance for undertaking relief and rehabilitation of the affected people in Jammu and Kashmir. Now it is the duty of the State Government to make best efficient and most judicious use of this assistance. The State Government should constitute official teams at grass root level to reach the affected areas, assess the exact losses and prepare the report at the earliest for providing adequate compensation for rehabilitation and till then the relief operations should be taken and continued on war footing. The Government should not be choosey or selective in distribution of this assistance, he added.
Sukhnandan Kumar said that almost entire Marh Assembly Constituency has been affected and areas in and around Gho-Manasa, Top Manasa, Makwal Camp, Summ, Laxamanpur, Jwalapuri, Channi, Nandani, Nandpur, Ganeshuchak, are the areas which have faced total loss of crops, houses, bridges and roads. The people in these areas have been rendered houseless and need immediate help. The Government should press into service all the available means to provide at least tents, cloth, ration etc. The destruction caused by the floods is of such magnitude that it will take years for the victims to come out of this calamity’s resultant loss he said and added that these people need a humane and compassionate approach.
