JAMMU, Sept 9: BJP State President & MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, along with State general secretary & Former Mayor Kavinder Gupta and other local leaders, visited Excelsior Lane, Lakkar Mandi and adjoining areas of old Janipur to interact with the people and get an first hand information about the damage caused to the lanes, drains and water pipes due to the recent unprecedented rains and floods.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while expressing Party’s sympathies with the people who have been affected by the rains and floods, said that while many areas have been worst hit, even the areas of Jammu City located at some height too have suffered. He said that lanes, drains, water pipes and small uncovered nallahs have caused damage to property and problems to the people as the water at some places have entered their houses, roads and lanes have developed cracks and the essential services got interrupted.
He said that the supply of water and electricity too got disrupted. All the concerned departments have been asked to work round the clock and take up repair works in the areas like Janipur and other such places at war footing. He further said that the Party cadre has already fanned out and is distributing some critically needed relief among the people displaced due to flash floods. He assured the public that Government of India under Narendra Modi will provide every kind of assistance to the State Government on which lies the responsibility to rescue and rehabilitate the flood victims.
Kavinder Gupta, while briefing the MP on behalf of the local population, held the departments like NBCC responsible for the damages caused to the roads and the lanes due to poor execution of the work adding that no proper leveling and blacktopping had been done after laying of sewerage pipes. It also caused soil erosion resulting into washing away of roads and lanes.
He said that failure on part of JMC and UEED to timely widen and cover the nallahs flowing through the area also created problems for the people as it got overflowed during the heavy rains and floods. He further said that the NBCC, JMC and UEED have to gear up its machinery and do whatever is required for smooth movement of vehicles and people on roads and lanes.
The MP was also accompanied by Subash Sharma, Shiv Rattan Gupta, Deepak and Raghav.
