POONCH, Sept 10: Four days of incessant rain in district Poonch have caused massive damages to school buildings.
This was informed by the Chief Education Officer, Poonch, Abdul Hamid Fani in a meeting chaired by the District Development Commissioner, Poonch, M H Malik.
214 schools have been damaged out of which 179 are partially damaged while 35 have been fully damaged. Most of the fully damaged schools fall in Balakote, Mendhar, Sathra and Nangali Zones. 110 primary schools have been affected most of them fully damaged, whereas two higher secondary, three high and ninety nine primary schools have suffered damages.
The DDC has directed the CEO to personally visit all the education zones along with concerned ZEOs to verify all the damages. The DDC instructed CEO to put up alternative accommodation either rented or in tents so that students do not face any problem.
The DDC, who is monitoring the progress of the PHE, PDD, I&FC and PWD on daily basis, has impressed upon the XEns of PWD and PMGSY to work in close coordination to restore the intra-district road connectivity.
Malik has also directed the officers of PHE department to provide regular tanker service in areas where bore wells or tube wells have been washed away. AD, CAPD informed the DDC that there is no obstacle in the supply of essential commodities from Jammu and K-oil, LPG and food items are being distributed to people in the entire district.
Malik has also asked the Army to air drop food packets at Hill Kaka, in the upper reaches of Pir Panjal range, where some nomads are stranded and the civil administration is unable to reach.
