More states extend help to J&K

JAMMU,Sept 12: More states today came forward to help flood-ravaged people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced financial assistance of Rs 10 crore for the flood ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Hooda also flagged off seven trucks of relief material, including 50,000 blankets, 10,000 nylon plastic sheets, medicines and food items, for the affected people from his New Delhi residence today.
The Chief Minister said such natural calamity had never been witnessed before in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana would extend all possible help to mitigate the suffering of the people of the state in their hour of need.
Punjab Government dispatched one lakh packets of cooked food for victims of flood ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
Out of these, 26,000 have been contributed by Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) and the rest have been donated by religious and social organisations of Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Amritsar and Jalandhar, a official spokesman said here.
Besides, 600 blankets, 35 quintal of dry ration and clothes have been dispatched from Amritsar by special IAF plane, he said.
Expressing solidarity with the Government and the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their hour of crisis, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has assured the J and K government all possible help and support.
AIADMK Legislators decided to contribute their one month’s salaries to the Jammu and Kashmir Flood Relief Fund.
Deputy Legislature party leader A Anbalagan, who announced the members’ resolve during Zero Hour, said the floods which had claimed several lives and caused extensive devastation in Jammu and Kashmir was heart-rending.
“On humanitarian grounds, we intend to contribute our one-month’s salaries to the fund as the stranded people there should be taken care of,” he said and requested Chief Minister N Rangasamy to announce the government’s contribution to the fund.
The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) appealed to the public to respond to the ‘human crisis’ in Jammu & Kashmir which is battling one of the worst floods in decades.
The NBCC made the appeal to all its constituent associations, churches, families and individuals.    In a release, the NBCC appealed to all to ‘respond to this crisis with prayers and financial contribution’.
Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have decided to donate Rs 20 lakh each for relief and rescue operations in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
The 27 AAP legislators will donate a minimum of Rs 20 lakh from the MLA Development Fund.
“A decision was taken to donate money for the relief operations in Jammu and Kashmir at a meeting of AAP MLAs,” senior party leader Manish Sisodia said.
“As per the provision, MLAs can donate money upto Rs 35 lakh for any natural calamity or disaster,” an AAP leader said.
The party is yet to take a decision on whether it will donate the money to the Prime Minister’s Relief fund or Jammu and Kashmir CM’s Relief Fund or some other private fund.
