JAMMU, Sept 17: Annual Wrestling Championship was held at Satrayian in R S Pura, here today.
Thousands of people witnessed the event.
R S Chib, former Minister was the chief guest on the occasion. The Championship is being organized by the Chibhal Biradhari, which has migrated from tehsil Bhimber now in Pakistan.
People from different communities participated in the event. It is pertinent to mention here that before Indo-Pak partition, this Championship was held at Watala which is now in PoK. The Championship is being organized in the memory of Peer Monga Nath. Peer Monga Nath was an eminent secular personality, who was very popular among all the communities of Bhimber used to seek his blessings when he was alive.
Mr Chib said that this is a great example of rural sports, adding that such events provide a great opportunity to the budding sportsmen who are interested to participate in the wrestling events.
He further said that sportsmen strengthen the communal harmony.
The wrestlers from allover the State and adjoining States like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh participated in the event.
Later-on, Mr Chib distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up wrestlers in the valedictory function.
