SRINAGAR, July 19: A brilliant team effort helped Srinagar Shah Jahans to outplay formidable Anantnag Arsenals in the summit clash to lift the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) Phase-II title trophy at Delhi Public School (DPS) playfield, here today.
Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports RS Chib was the chief guest on the valedictory function and distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Earlier, put into bat, Anantnag Arsenals scored a fighting total of 151 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Skipper Parvez Rasool top scored with 36 runs, studded with 3 fours and 3 sixes, while Mehraj and Sartaj contributed 32 and 29 runs to the total respectively. For Srinagar Shah Jahans, left-arm spinner Aamir Aziz was pick of the bowlers, capturing 3 important wickets, while speedsters Mohd Muddasir and Umar Aalam bagged 2 wickets each.
In reply, Shah Jahans sailed on superb knocks from Ahmed Umar Bandey, Adil Reshi and Owais Shah to chase the required target in 17.2 overs by losing 2 wickets in the process and won the match by 8 wickets. Ahmed Bandey top scored with 56 runs, while Adil contributed unbeaten 42 runs and Owais Shah scored brisk 38 runs. For Anantnag Arsenals, Aaquib Nazir and Noor Mohd claimed one wicket apiece. Ahmed Umar Bandey was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant half-century, while Adil Reshi claimed the man of the series title. Asif Rasool and Aamir Aziz were adjudged best batsman and best bowler of the tournament respectively. Danish Muzaffar and Asif Khan were jointly named best wicketkeepers.
