Srinagar, Sept 20: Army today killed 4 militants in Tangdhar sector in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district near the Line of Control (LoC).
An Army spokesman said that four AK 47 rifles and other ammunition and water like stores were recovered.
Army sources said that a group of at least 7-8 militants had infiltrated into the Indian side early today. The group was challenged and they opened fire on troops leading to a gun battle in which four militants were killed.
The sources said that Army has launched massive searches against the other members of the group. “Most probably the other members have fled back to PoK”, sources said.
“The identity of the militants and their organization is yet to be ascertained but most likely they are Pakistanis and are associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba”, Army sources said.
Army says that they have killed 10 militants near the Line of Control since floods hit Kashmir.
“Troops are maintaining tight vigil along the LoC despite their heavy involvement in the relief operation across the flood hit State”, said Goswami.
Army has tightened its anti-infiltration grid along the LoC as they had information that the militants may take advantage of the floods and try to enter into Kashmir in large numbers.
Sources said that Army has intensified its patrolling along the LoC and near the forest areas to foil militant designs.
In the meantime, a PoK national was nabbed by Border Security Forces (BSF) after he strayed across the LoC in Uri sector of North Kashmir.
A BSF officer said: “A PoK resident was nabbed by BSF jawans after he was found under suspicious circumstances in Gohalan village of Uri on September 18.”
The officer identified him as Qasim Shah. He was handed over to local police for further legal proceedings. Police have registered a case (FIR 46/2014 under Section 2/3 of Egress and Internal Movement Control Ordinance and started investigations).
Shah told his interrogators that he is resident of Bagh tehsil in Muzaffarabad, and had quarreled with his family and wandered towards LoC when he was nabbed by 11 Battalion of BSF.
