JAMMU, Sept 21: On the fifth day of the “Display Your Talent”, the Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Poetry Recitation, Sketching and Photography Competitions were organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, here.
In Photography Competition, Rachita Dutta from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu, bagged the first prize, while Jasneet Kour from Department of English, University of Jammu and Abhishek Gupta from Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, bagged the second and third prize respectively.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Shayaan Bhat from Govt MAM College, Jammu, Suhaib Salman from The Law School, University of Jammu and Kashish Bharti from Govt SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu.
The topics for the Photography Competition were “Life in the Garden” and “Proper Use of Light”.
Chandan Sunder, Dr Sanjay Sharma and Arvind Gupta, were the judges of the Photography Competition.
Dr Ashok Gupta, was the teacher Incharge, for Photography Competition whereas Dr Rajni Bala and Dr Harish Chander were the Teachers Incharge for Poetry Recitation and Sketching Competitions respectively.
In Poetry Recitation Competition, a poem in Hindi “Ma Sumvedhna Hai, Bhawana Hai, Ahsaas Hai, Ma Jiwan Ke Phoolon Main Khusbhu Ka Vaas Hai”, recited by first prize winner Shiwangi Sharma from Govt College for Women, Parade, Jammu was highly applauded and appreciated by the audience.
Rakesh Kumar from the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu, presented his self composed poem “Jis Main Iss Dil Pee Hazaroon Hi Sitam Gujreen Hain, Muskuratee Huyee Uss Dour Syee Hum Gujreen Hain” and bagged the Second prize. Another poem in Urdu “Sachhaai Per Jo Hai who Rehbari Taslim Kartaa Hoon, Jo Bhii Rehnuma Hai Uss Ki Tazeem Karta Hoon” presented by Haqnawaz from GGM Science College, Jammu, bagged the Third prize.
The Certificates of Merit were awarded to Swati Vijay from Department of English, University of Jammu and Munir Hussain from MAM College, Jammu.
Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, echoed with the thunderous applause by the audience on every good piece of poetry and performance.
The young poets, in their presentations, vociferously raised the issues, related to the Women Empowerment, Female Foeticide, Dowry, Patriotism, Communal Harmony & Brotherhood and Terrorism etc.
The participants recited the poetry of the established poets as well as their self composed poems in Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gojri and English.
Prof P N Trisal, Prof Veena Gupta and Arsh Sehbai were the judges for the Poetry Recitation Competition.
In Sketching Competition, beautiful location of the University of Jammu was sketched very nicely by all the participants. Imran Khan from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu and Shubham Dogra from Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology were adjudged as first and second respectively, whereas the third prize was shared between the Bhanu Pratap from Department of Political Science, University of Jammu and Hemant Magotra from Govt SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu.
Bharti Sharma, Department of Mathematics and Sandeep Singh, The Business School, University of Jammu were awarded with Certificates of Merit.
Manoj Chopra, Dheeraj Nanda and Vijay Anand were the adjudicators for the Sketching Competition.
Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare and Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, distributed the certificates among the participating students.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas, Assistant Dean (SW), Dr Jaspal Singh, Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer, Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor, Teacher Incharges from various affiliated Colleges, Rahul Sharma, Secretary, Students Cultural Council and Joint Secretaries Tania Sohal, Bharti Devi and Aenny Mattoo.
Classical Instrumental Percussion and Non Percussion events will held at 10 am at Brig Zorawar Singh Auditorium tomorrow.
